In April 2018 Centralia voters approved $7.8 Million in revenue bonds so that the City could make necessary upgrades to the drinking water and wastewater systems. The water plant improvements began during the summer of 2020, while the wastewater project is set to begin in September 2021. Part of the process to secure the loans involves a review of the City’s water and sewer rates to ensure we are able to repay the loans, and even with recent rate increases Centralia’s water and sewer rates remain low compared to other cities in Missouri. The City advertised for a public hearing to be held June 21, 2021 before the Board of Aldermen regarding the most recent sewer rate increase, and the Board of Aldermen approved the rate increase that was required by Missouri DNR, which become effective June 25, 2021. City sewer customers will see the sewer rate increase on their utility bill that is due August 15, 2021.
